DIS-TANZ-SOLO, research grant, Berlin, Mai-Dec. 2021

EN

Thanks to the DIS-TANZ-SOLO grant I had the chance to take time to dive into a theoretical and a movement research about touch. The theoretical part consisted in collecting and reading different books and articles on the history, the effects and the role of touch for the human specie. I learned a lot on a scientific, sociological, artistic and philosophical level. I gathered many informations that helped me understand events that I experienced until then working with touch.

The point of the theoretical research was to be able, to a certain level, to integrate these informations in the form of discourses and references in the practice itself, both in solo and in groups. the grant helped me to host a one week residency for me and my two collaborators Joni Barnard and Fergus Johnson in June 2021 which was a beautiful re-encounter and allowed us to deeply work with the material.

The conceptual effort I made to organise the residency gave me a solid departure for the solo movement research I undertook after that. Full with the touch of my colleagues and without knowing when next we would be able to meet again to work or teach together, I was able find ways to embody the touch and transform it into movement qualities. I tried to take actions of the hands like holding, pushing, pressing, drawing etc.. and expand them to my whole body, or to combine them in different body parts, seeing what different intentionality it gives to my movement. I am very enthusiastic to take that further.

Building this website also has been part of my activities since receiving the grant.
